Bluewater GMAC Real Estate, located in Carteret County on the Southern Outer Banks of North Carolina, takes pride in being a full service real estate company. Originally founded in 1986 as Bluewater Associates of Emerald Isle, Inc., the firm is locally owned and operated by Sherrell Futral and Woody Warren.

Bluewater Associates was originally formed as a land development company by five homebuilders. Its first project, appropriately named Bluewater Bay, was an oceanfront community completed in February 1986. This first development was an overnight success, with every one of its 85 lots selling in less than three hours. The marketing skills employed in that endeavor proved extremely successful, so successful that people actually camped five cold February nights outside the door before the actual sale date. Compelled by this success, Bluewater Associates' owners built a Real Estate office, which remains at its present location at 200 Mangrove Drive in Emerald Isle, North Carolina.

Other Bluewater Associates projects include Bluewater Bay North, Bluewater Banks, Walnut Place, Cape Point and Bluewater Cove. In addition to company owned developments, Bluewater Associates' sales associates have participated in marketing subdivisions such as Magens Bay, Dolphin Ridge, Royall Oaks, Emerald Landing and Pointe Bogue.

In 1993, Bluewater Associates franchised with Better Homes and Gardens, changing its name to Bluewater Better Homes and Gardens. This alliance with a major corporation dramatically improved the image and professionalism the firm had strived to achieve. After Meredith Corporation sold its real estate division to GMAC Real Estate Services in October 2000, Bluewater Associates came to be known as Bluewater GMAC Real Estate.

The Bluewater GMAC Real Estate sales department has four offices strategically located within the county. Sales office locations include Atlantic Beach, Cape Carteret, Beaufort and Emerald Isle. Under the direction of Syndie Byrd, General Sales Manager, and fellow Brokers-in Charge, Sandy Phillips, Sandy Futral, Eleanor Copeland and Pat Copeland, the 40+ highly trained, dedicated and hard working real estate professionals are consistently a top producing real estate sales team yearly according to the Crystal Coast Multiple Listing Service.

In the summer of 1993, Bluewater Associates launched a property management division. With just seven vacation rental home contracts, Bluewater leaped into the vacation rental business. The productivity and exponential growth of this branch has helped Bluewater GMAC Real Estate become one of the larger vacation rental companies on the East Coast, managing nearly 1,000 vacation homes. Managed by John Kelly, Bluewater GMAC's property management division currently employs 95 professionals and also includes association management, annual rentals, pool and hot tub installation and maintenance. Bluewater GMAC property management division is the booking agent and association manager for the newly remodeled in 2009 Islander Suites at Emerald Isle.

Not forgetting their roots, the owners merged their construction companies to form Bluewater Builders in 1998. Kevin and Anthony are superintendents for the building company, which has constructed many of the Blue Pearl Homes that are found in Bluewater's vacation rental division. Bluewater Builders' homes are found exclusively in Bluewater Cove and many of the finest subdivisions in the county. Bluewater Builders has been recently selected to be a premier builder in the exclusive Cannonsgate at Bogue Sound Community.
